It was game night again but Tuesday this time, my biological football clock is set to weekends but Football in itself makes any day a weekend, so never mind. I was desperately waiting for the Manchester United vs Chelsea game. If you look at the fixtures, it is kind of alarming how we have first few matches of the seasons itself with our old enemies and strong teams.
I decided to watch the match at my friend Saurabh's cafe Mangosteen, the only place in town with big screen soccer screenings.There are two reasons as to why I wanted to see this match with him.
1) He is a hardcore Chelsea fan, that will add to the war feeling. (I envy him to be lucky enough to visit Stamford Bridge)
2) Last season, every time I watched a game at Mangosteen and Saurabh will walk in, United scored a goal. I might sound superstitious, but seriously that happened just Every Single Time. And I wanted to make sure his good luck for my team can be like a cherry on the cake.
Turned out it was my friend Vaibhav's birthday and he joined in too. He is a Liverpool guy and my Biggest soccer enemy. And now there were two people to pest me to death if we loose.
Coming back to the game, I though that Chelsea will with Hazard, Torres and Mate as stickers, but what surprised me was they are starting with just Hazard setting up a great midfield and defense. It was like, I could just read Mourinho's mind, they were playing at Our home ground and the cowards decided to play smart and not make us goal. But the great thing was, despite such a defense we had the ball possession for most of the time and the match was a draw.
Though it was a plain and boring match for some here are some things that I really enjoyed. Rooney showed a #inyourface performance, that was enough to speak worldwide that he is a loyal Red Devil and he is not interested in Chelsea. He was sharp and fast and made 3 great goal attempts, in all showing his dedication. RVP was amazing as ever and also made 3 attempts. Welbeck's attempt was the closest one that went over the bar though. Carrick was brilliant tonight ruling the midfield and completing more than 80% passes. But for me the star of the night was De-Gea. He is just climbing up my list of best keepers with every game and now that I think of it, he is the Only perfect substitute for Edwin Vandersar.
Speaking for Chelsea, I see a great potential in Invanovik. He was great on field, maybe Suarez biting him, was for some good. Oscar's goal attempts and A.Cole's efforts were worth noticing. Terry, Lampard and Hazard played there part good as always.
When Valencia got no yellow card, Chelsea fans were furious and started with "Refrees are United's 12th man" but what when A. Cole also was not given the card as well? The same fans dropped in there seats like nothing happened. But justice prevails!! Ain't that true? De Bruyne blocked Robin Van Persie and not only ended up bleeding himself but was also gifted a Yellow Card.
I was still left with some energy to have an after match discussion with Mukti Masih till 3A.M. I am kind of her Football mentor these days. Hahahaha!! (This statement makes me feel like a Queen somehow) I am so much looking forward for the United vs Liverpool game next week, as they officially are my Hatemost club not just because of the team itself but because I think there fans kill me with their stupidity most of the times. Anfield watch out this sunday!!
Match night at Mangosteen. And all these flags at this place are enough to speak for Saurabh's choice. He promised me to put up a United flag and I am still waiting for that day to come. But then I hope he someday keeps his word.
